Legal Plan For Clients

This video shows realtors a way to give clients access to a lawyer when legal issues come up.

It keeps closings from falling apart.

How would I offer this to my clients?

You can bring it up when you’re already talking with buyers or sellers.

You might mention it during a listing or buyer meeting, while looking at a contract, or when a legal question comes up.

You’re not giving legal advice. You’re letting your client know there’s a service that gives them access to an attorney.

What would I say?

You could say:

“I’m not an attorney, but I can show you a way to talk to one.”

Or you could say:

“I let my clients know about a service that gives them access to a law firm when they need legal help during a closing.”

When would I bring it up?

Before the sale. During the transaction. After the closing.

You can also tell past clients about it.

What would my clients use it for?

Contracts. Boundary disputes. Liens. Problems with contractors. Warranties. Insurance problems. Landlord and tenant issues.

They can also use the service when other legal questions come up in their lives.

Do I have to know a lot about the law?

No.

When a client asks you a legal question, you don’t have to try to answer it.

You can point them to a LegalShield attorney who can.

What about E&O insurance?

There is a difference between E&O insurance and LegalShield.

E&O insurance helps protect you if someone makes a claim against you because of your work as a real estate agent.

LegalShield gives you an affordable way to talk to an attorney when you need legal help.

They can work together, but one does not replace the other.

Will this take me away from real estate?

You’re already talking with buyers, sellers, and past clients.

You’re already telling people about lenders, inspectors, title companies, contractors, and other services.

This is one more thing you can offer your clients.

Is this going to give me more work to do?

Any time you do something new, there’s some work involved at first.

You don’t have to know everything about the service or give people a long presentation.

You can show them where they can learn more and let them decide for themselves.

Am I allowed to offer LegalShield to my clients?

Yes.

Some real estate agents may wonder about this because there are rules about getting paid when you recommend certain services to your clients.

LegalShield is different from a lender or title company.

If your client signs up for LegalShield, you can get paid.

Let your client know that you may make money if they sign up.

If you have questions about the rules where you work, ask your broker.

A few things to know

How long has LegalShield been in business?

The company has been in business since 1972.

LegalShield covers 4.5 million people.

Their lawyers average 22 years of experience.

More than 140,000 businesses in the U.S. and Canada use the service.

More than 40,000 employers offer the service as an employee benefit.

How much does it cost to get started?

It costs $99 to become an associate.

You pay that one time.

The company gets the $99. I don’t receive any of it.

What do the LegalShield plans cost?

Basic is $29.95 a month. It covers you and your spouse.

Preferred is $39.95 a month. It covers you, your spouse, and your children who live at home.

Premium is $49.95 a month. It gives you more legal services.

What about IDShield?

IDShield is $19.95 a month for one person.

It watches all three of your credit reports.

The family plan is $34.95 a month.

It covers you, your spouse or partner, and eligible dependents.

Both plans help protect your identity and help restore it if it’s stolen.

What about legal help for my real estate business?

There is a Home Business Add-On for $29.95 a month.

It gives you access to legal help for covered questions involving your business.

It also includes help with certain business documents, letters, phone calls, debt collection, and audits.

What is LegalShield Advantage?

LegalShield Advantage gives you a personal website and more to run your LegalShield business.

It includes your personal website, back office, app, and other business tools.

You use it to sign up your clients and to send them information about the service.

Your first month is free.

After that, it is $24.95 a month.

How do I make money?

When someone you refer signs up for LegalShield, you get paid.

As long as they keep their plan, you can continue getting paid.

That is how money from a closing can keep coming in after the closing is over.

Is there any guarantee I’ll make money?

No.

There is no guarantee you will make money.

And if you do make money, it may take some time.

What if a customer cancels their plan?

The money from that customer stops.

The same thing happens when someone cancels Netflix, Apple, or Planet Fitness. The subscription ends, so the monthly revenue ends.
