In the United Kingdom, researchers have found a correlation between a high sense of mental well-being and consumption of fruits and vegetables.
Thirty-six percent of the people who ate five or more vegetables a day had a high sense of well-being. Only twenty-eight percent of the people who consumed one or two portions reported similar upbeat feelings.
The researchers believe because vegetables are so nutritious, they play a large role in overall health, both mental and physical.
"Our findings add to the mounting evidence that fruit and vegetable intake could be one such factor and mean that people are likely to enhance their mental well-being at the same time as preventing heart disease and cancer." - Sarah Brown, co-author of the report
